101 Things in 1001 Days

So, I saw this page, 101 Things in 1001 Days, and I was intrigued enough to start one of my own. We all have items on our "to do" list, but do we ever really get to them? I know I don't!

In order to actually make myself think about what I want to do -- and without a scary end date of 30 days or something like that -- I decided to start a list of my own.

The Mission:
Complete 101 preset tasks in a period of 1001 days.

The Criteria:
Tasks must be specific (ie. no ambiguity in the wording) with a result that is either measurable or clearly defined. Tasks must also be realistic and stretching (ie. represent some amount of work on my part).

Why 1001 Days?
Many people have created lists in the past - frequently simple goals such as New Year's resolutions. The key to beating procrastination is to set a deadline that is realistic. 1001 Days (about 2.75 years) is a better period of time than a year, because it allows you several seasons to complete the tasks, which is better for organizing and timing some tasks such as overseas trips or outdoor activities.

Some common goal setting tips:
1. Be decisive. Know exactly what you want, why you want it, and how you plan to achieve it.

2. Stay Focused. Any goal requires sustained focus from beginning to end. Constantly evaluate your progress.

3. Welcome Failure. Frequently, very little is learned from a venture that did not experience failure in some form. Failure presents the opportunity to learn and makes the success more worthy.

4. Write down your goals. It clarifies your thinking and reinforces your commitment.

5. Keep your goals in sight. Review them frequently, and ensure that they are always at the forefront of your thinking.

And here's my list. I'll keep you all updated.

Bold - Completed tasks!

Do you have Cracker Barrel up there? I know they sell Bottle Caps. If not, give me your address and I'll buy some and send them to you. Then I get the joy of helping you cross one of your items off your list. :)

Ooh, I did not know that. We do have a Cracker Barrel up here. I will check it out this weekend and let you know if our Cracker Barrel doesn't sell them. Thank you! :)

Ok, I too want to have the joy of helping to cross something off your list. Especially since I just discovered your blog for the first time (how fun)! I have a copy of Ender's Game that I will bring to you sometime in the next few weeks in case you're interested in borrowing it. And for #43, I have a GREAT recommendation of a place that's only about 10 minutes from your work. Also...if you accomplish #98, I want to hear about it. (YOU CAN DO IT!! :)

Thanks, Melissa! The scary thing is that I actually own Ender's Game and have had it since December of last year. LOL I just keep getting distracted by other books, but this time I'm actually going to read it.

Definitely want to hear your recommendation for #43 and LMAO at #98. That one I think will be the toughest of all of these!
